There are 3 wing dams on the Delaware
River. The first one is Scudders Falls and is located
1/4 mile north of I-95. To access the dam by boat,
use the Yardley PA ramp just below the I-95 overpass.
On foot, the best access is from the bicycling trail
on the New Jersey side of the river. There is a
parking area on the river road near the State Police
barracks. There are trails from the parking area
to the wing dam. Click images for full view. Boaters
should stay clear of this dam.
The second wing dam is just below
Lambertville NJ and New Hope PA. This dam is the
most dangerous of the three dams because of the
swift water below the dam. At times of low water,
you can walk onto the dam from the bike trail on
the NJ side of the river. From kayak, launch at
the Lambertville NJ ramp, 1/4 mile north of the
dam. Boaters should stay clear of this dam.
The third and last wing dam on
the Delaware is at Bulls Island NJ --Lumberville,
PA. This dam looks the most like an actual dam.
Access the dam by boat from the Bulls Island boat
ramp 1/3 mile south of the dam. Or by foot from
Bulls Island campground, or the bike trail on
the Pa side of the river. Boaters should stay
clear of this dam.
